Principals with Pencils

The Hesperia Unified School District elementary principals began the new school a little earlier by participating in Third Annual “Principal with Pencils” at Hesperia Walmart and Stater Bros. this past Saturday. In anticipation of the students shopping for their back to school needs, the elementary principals came out in mass to greet the new students. As a token of inspiration and welcoming them back, each student received a pencil.

“Principals with Pencils” organizer Chris Mauger said, “This was our third year for the Principals with Pencils, where elementary administrators greeted families at the Hesperia Walmart and the Stater Brothers. We met lots of families from all of our elementary schools, many of whom were new to the district and seemed to appreciate the welcome. One Mission Crest student could not contain her excitement for the new year, chatting up Mr. Plescia, Principal of Mission Crest Elementary, as though he were a rock star (which he is!). It's always fun for us as administrators to get out into the community and connect with our HUSD families.”

Students were excited to see their principals in this setting as many of the students posed with the educators by taking “selfies” to capture the memory. “One family received a Facebook notification early Saturday morning and came down immediately to meet their administrators. The students were very excited to get pencils from their administrative team at Lime Street Elementary,” said Carrie Lewis, Assistant Principal.
