The CalKids program offers students who qualify $500 - $1,500 of free money for school after High School. Please note that CalKids is run by the State of California, not HUSD. Read below to learn more.
Q: Do I qualify for free CalKids money?
A: To check if your child qualifies follow these step-by-step instructions:
Go to calkids.org/get-started/
Click “Confirm Eligibility”
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Your child’s SSID number (aka “Student State ID”) can be found through the parent Infinite Campus portal https://hesperiaca.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/parents/hesperia.jsp or by calling your child’s school. If you feel there is an error concerning your child’s eligibility for CalKids money, please call CalKids toll-free at 1-888-445-2377.
Q: If I qualify, how much free CalKids money will I receive?
A: Generally speaking, current 12th graders who are designated as either low-income or EL (English Learner) should receive $500 each. Homeless or Foster students will receive an additional $500 each. Q: I’m not a senior yet. Will I get free CalKids money when I graduate?
A: CalKids plans to offer money “starting fall 2022 and each year following”. So yes, CalKids currently plans to do so, if you qualify.
