The fifth and final Experiential Learning Program internship through HUSD and facilitated by Silverwood Development was hosted at the High Desert Realtors Association. A number of presenters took turns giving the students insight on what happens after a house is built. We had the opportunity to learn and hear from realtors, an escrow company, a home inspector, a home warranty representative, a title company and a mortgage company. This gave the students a deeper understanding and insight into what happens after a house is built and the process they will go through one day should they choose to purchase a home.

Mojave High School took 32 students to the Multi Company Discipline Day at Victor Valley College's Regional Public Safety Center. Students had the unique opportunity to learn more about careers in police, fire, paramedics, and forensics, and how VVC can help our students get into these careers.

Kaine successfully completed an Experiential Learning Program Internship with HUSD's Police Department. As part of the internship experience he was able to ride along with our HUSD officer and visit the Sheriff's emergency call center, the courthouse and detention centers. He was also able to learn about report writing and how emergency vehicles operate. The experience gave our student the ability to see what it's like to be a Police Officer and apply the knowledge gained to a future career.

The fourth Experiential Learning Program internship through HUSD and facilitated by Silverwood Development was hosted at Silverwood Development by WestLand Group. The students had the opportunity to go out on the Silverwood Development job site and see some of the surveying equipment they had just learned about in action. Aaron and Joseph from WestLand group did an amazing job informing the students about jobs in the field of surveying and teaching the students about the different equipment needed to do those jobs.

The third Experiential Learning Internship through HUSD and facilitated by Silverwood Development was at Pacific Communities. The students had the opportunity to tour various stages of homes being built all the way from framing to a model home. They learned about wiring, drywall, plumbing, insulation, roofing and many other aspects of building a home from inspections to final walk-throughs with the home buyer. Cruz and his team did a great job of explaining all of the different stages of construction.

An event you won’t want to miss. Come be part of something incredible.

Congratulations to the HUSD Employees of the Month for April! Our Teacher of the Month is Special Education teacher Sybil Bell from Joshua Circle Elementary, and our Classified Employee of the Month is Oak Hills High School Special Education Assistant II, Laurie Bylsma.
