Last week HUSD hosted its first ever secondary esports grand final. Hesperia High, Mojave High, Oak Hills High, and Sultana High, the top four teams of the season, competed for the coveted esports trophy and bragging rights. There were a lot of close games but in the end Hesperia High rose to become champions and took home the trophy.

Hey students, do you want a chance at winning $1,000? If so, the Elk's Lodge Americanism Essay Contest could be your ticket! Any 5th-8th grader can submit a 300 word or less essay on "What the Bill of Rights means to me" by 12/14/23, with a completed cover sheet (see attached), for a chance to win. National winners can win up to $1,000! And there are also cash prizes and a free award ceremony dinner for local winners as well! Here is one of last year's local winners, RMS student Kealoha Soto. Elementary students should talk to their teacher and secondary students should talk to their English or History teacher for more information. If you like the Bill of Rights and winning money it's time to get typing! Good Luck!

The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free free-throw basketball competition for kids where students can qualify through school site competitions to participate in the "local event" against neighboring school district students. This year's "local event" (which they need to qualify for through your school site competition) will be held in the HHS gym on Sat 12/9/23. From there they can qualify for regional and eventually even national contests (the elks lodge will pay for students to compete at regional and national events). Spectator tickets are $2 per adult and $1 per student. Victor Valley Transit is currently in the process of conducting a Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA) of the VVTA Transit System. The purpose of the COA is to assess the effectiveness of the VVTA bus system, to analyze ridership patterns of transit users, and to identify unmet transportation needs of the community . VVTA has set up an online survey for students and guardians to fill out, so they can continue to develop better public transportation options for both parents and students in the future. On a rainy November evening families from Juniper, Krystal, Lime, and Carmel came to Krystal's MPR to cheer on their students participating in Robotics preliminaries prior to the upcoming opening tournaments. Over 34 teams came out and the excitement was palpable!

Today's #SchoolSiteHighlight is at Ranchero Middle School and this week is their Project Based Learning week. This year's theme is Zombies. Where the entire school engages on zombie themed learning in all classes. Today in PE students got to do the zombie run. RMS staff showed up early to set the course up. Students ran the course while avoiding the ASB students dressed as zombies and other obstacles. What a great way to make the mile run fun! Special thanks to Mr. Santos, VanHulzen, Westlake and Ms. Hernandez, Verrett and the ASB students who made the event possible!
